Note, when running Heaven it seems to shut down at the same scene every time (don't know if this is important or if it points to other issues). I doubt this is an airflow problem however since as I noted it ran for years without issue and the PC has been cleaned. Yesterday I updated drivers, turned on the AC in the room, opened the case panel and was able to run Heaven bench for 1,5hrs but then I shut off AC, put the case cover back on and after ~10mins it rose up to over 90deg and shut down again.
Fans appear to work normally but in gaming/benchmarking they cannot cool down the temps even at 100%, making shutdown inevitable. Idle GPU clock is mostly 300MHz but periodically fluctuates greatly, Mem clock is 300MHz. Via the fan curve I can drop it back to 37-40deg. Idle temps also appear high-ish (not sure if they are), ranging from 37-40deg to 50-55 (the latter especially when turning the PC back on after it shuts off). Running MSI Afterburner as well as Unigine's Heaven benchmark I positively correlated the shutdowns to a GPU temperature increase to the ~93 degree Celsius range (the readings fluctuate up and down but once I see the first 93s it shuts off shortly after).
I cannot trace this change to a specific event. It ran fine for years but for the past year my PC has been shutting down shortly after opening most games (it does not shut down on Arma 3, CoD4 MW).
